Al-Haq Welcomes Launch of World Health Organization Report on the Right to Health in the Occupied Palestinian Territory
On 10 July, at approximately 11:00 pm, the Palestinian Coordination Office in Nablus informed the Mayor of ‘Awarta, Sami Abdul Fattah ‘Awwad, 53, that settlers from ‘Itamar’ settlement had cut down olive trees belonging to residents of the village. The Palestinian Coordination Office had been informed of the incident by the Israeli Coordination Office. Sami was invited, along with other local farmers, to visit the area the following day, accompanied by members of the Israeli army, to check the damages.
Investigations of such incidents by the Israeli authorities remain insufficient to a degree that amounts to systemic failure to prevent or punish criminal behaviour, thereby implicitly sanctioning further attacks. These acts of violence and harassment perpetrated by Israeli settlers against Palestinians aim to consolidate the Occupying Power’s policy of forcible transfer and land confiscation, with the objective of expanding Israel’s illegal settlement enterprise, fostering its economy and strengthening its control over Palestinian natural resources.
