Al-Haq Warns Third States and Gas Companies Against Bidding for Gas Licenses in Disputed Waters off the Israeli and Palestinian CoastOn 4 November 2018, the Israeli Ministry of Energy announced that the second bidding round for oil and gas exploration licenses will soon be opened to “all the Israeli EEZ area”, including an area of the Mediterranean Sea encompassing disputed waters bordering Palestine, which have not yet been settled by a delimitation agreement between Israel and the State of Palestine.[1]

Photo taken by Al-Haq on Tuesday, 13 November 2018 – (c) Al-Haq 2018.Between 11 and 13 November 2018, the Israeli Occupying Forces (IOF) instigated and conducted a number of intensive raids and attacks in locations throughout the Gaza Strip, killing 14 Palestinians, including two civilians, and injuring at least 44. The injured included 35 men, four women and five children. According to Al-Haq’s preliminary field documentation, on the evening of 11 November, seven Palestinians were killed, and seven others injured, during a raid by an Israeli undercover unit in Abasan Al-Kabira, east of Khan Younis, approximately three kilometres away from the fence. During the raid, Nour Addin Muhammad Baraka, 37, a commander in the Al-Qassam Military Brigades was killed by the IOF unit, after which members of the Palestinian resistance exchanged fire with the Israeli force there. As the Israeli unit was retreating from the location, and for about two hours, a number of missiles and bullets were fired by Israeli warplanes at different locations in the east of Khan Younis, killing six members of the resistance, including Muhammad Majed Al-Qarra, 23, Khaled Muhammad Qeder, 29, Mustafa Hassan Abu Odeh, 21, Mahmoud Atallah Misbeh, 25, Aladdin Fawzi Fseifis, 19, and Omar Naji Abu Khater, 21, and injuring seven others. The Israeli army later announced that one undercover soldier was killed, while another was injured.[1] In response to the IOF’s attack, the Palestinian resistance launched missiles targeting various Israeli locations surrounding the Gaza Strip.

For the past eight months (33 consecutive weeks), Al-Haq has documented the Israeli Occupying Forces’ (IOF) use of unnecessary and excessive force, including lethal force, to suppress peaceful Palestinian assemblies along the Gaza fence. Since the start of the Great Return March protests in the Gaza Strip on 30 March 2018, the IOF have killed 173 protesters and injured thousands of others. The information provided below is based on Al-Haq’s field documentation throughout the Great Return March protests between 12 October and 9 November 2018.

Al-Haq is following the developments regarding the arbitrary eviction of five families from their homes in Ramallah City of the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT). According to written testimonies given by the occupants and documented by Al-Haq, dozens of members of the Palestinian Authority’s Police, National Security Service and the Public Prosecutor’s Office raided the homes of the five families, on Tuesday, 6 June 2018. The tenants were ordered to evacuate their homes immediately based on orders issued by the Ministry of Finance in 2017, as well as orders issued by the Presidential Office, without providing a judicial decision regarding the eviction. Families were also informed that they will be forcibly evicted from their homes should they not voluntarily abide by the eviction order within 24 hours.
