Vision, Mission and Goals

Al-Haq’s Vision
To see the rule of law and standards of international human rights and humanitarian law implemented and adhered to, so that Palestinians can enjoy equal treatment with respect to their human dignity, free from occupation and with the full realisation of their right to self-determination.

Al-Haq’s Mission
Al-Haq is an independent Palestinian non-governmental human rights organisation that works in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT) to uphold the rule of law and respect for human rights. Al-Haq focuses on monitoring, documenting, and advocating against the violations of the individual and collective rights of Palestinians under international law, irrespective of the identity of the perpetrator, using both national and international mechanisms to:

  • influence policies at the national and international levels;
  • and hold perpetrators accountable

with the intention of promoting respect and adherence to the rule of law and remedying violations.

Al-Haq’s Goals and Objectives
Al-Haq has identified three major organisational goals for the following years: hold accountable perpetrators of violations of international human rights and humanitarian law; influence policies and legislation at the national and international levels; and strengthen Al-Haq’s organisational capacity.

For its goal to hold accountable perpetrators of violations of international human rights and humanitarian law, Al-Haq has the following objectives: that individual perpetrators are held accountable before national courts; that Israel is held accountable before the UN for its violations and crimes committed in the OPT; that civil society acts to hold accountable those who violate international law in the OPT; and compel third party states to prioritise international law, including international human rights and humanitarian law in their relationships with Israel.

For its second goal, to influence policies and legislation at the local, national, and international levels, Al-Haq has the following objectives: that Palestinian policies and legislation are in compliance with international legal standards; Palestinian society upholds respect for the rule of law as well as individual and collective security through the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) adhering to international human rights standards and the existence of an independent Palestinian judiciary; the implementation of the provision of the International Court of Justice’s Advisory Opinion regarding the Annexation Wall; adherence by the international community to its obligations regarding occupied East Jerusalem; and participation in civil society discourse and activities regarding divestment, boycott, and sanctions.

The objectives for the third and final goal, to improve and enhance Al-Haq’s organisational capacity, are the improvement of the institutional capacity to support and implement Al-Haq’s work, and that individual staff members acquire the skills and knowledge to effectively implement the work of the organisation.
