Applied International Law Orientation Course, 02-05 November 2015

Al Haq Center for Applied International Law is pleased to announce its 2nd semi-annual Applied International Law Orientation Course for employees of international organizations and diplomatic staff.

The orientation course will be held at the Al Haq Center for Applied International Law in Ramallah, on 02–05 November 2015 and will include presentations by legal professionals and discussions on key legal issues in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT). Moreover, the course will include three field visits providing everyone with the opportunity to see the on-the-ground reality of the occupation. The field visits will be accompanied by experienced human rights professionals.

The objective of the Orientation Course is to help participants develop a coherent understanding of the human rights situation in the OPT.

Al-Haq[1] is an independent Palestinian non-governmental human rights organization based in Ramallah, West Bank. Established in 1979 to protect and promote human rights and the rule of law in the OPT. The organization conducts research; human rights education; prepares reports, studies and interventions on breaches of international human rights and humanitarian law in the OPT; and undertakes advocacy before local, regional and international bodies.

The four-day course will cover discussion topics including:

  • Al Haq’s mandate and working methods;
  • Historical overview of the conflict;
  • International human rights and international humanitarian law normative frameworks applicable in the OPT;
  • Current overall human rights situation in the OPT;
  • Available accountability mechanisms;
  • Field visits to Jalazon refugee camp, the Jordan Valley and Hebron area

The orientation course is open to employees of international organizations and diplomatic staff operating in the OPT and Israel.

The orientation course is free of charge. Registration will close once the course is full. Applicants will be contacted when the selection process is finalized. Please note that participants agree to attend all four days of the course.

The course will be conducted in English.
