10، Feb 2016

European_Union_Parliament_Delegation_2016On 10 February 2016, Palestinian civil society organisations (Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association, the Independent Commission for Human Rights, Defence for Children International - Palestine, and Al-Haq) met with the European Union Parliament Delegation for relations with Palestine. During the meeting, the Palestinian organisations provided an update on the human rights situation in Occupied Palestine, specifically focusing on the following issues: Israel's unlawful killing of Palestinians over the last few months; Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons; ill-treatment of Palestinian child detainees; Palestinian Legislative Council members currently imprisoned by Israel; as well as the issue of Israel retaining the bodies of Palestinians killed by Israeli forces since October 2015. In addition, a discussion on how EU parliamentarians can take action with regard to the human rights situation in Palestine was carried out. It was recognized that more active engagement is needed by Parliamentarians in the Council of Europe on the issue of Palestine. Palestinian civil society organizations welcome the delegation and its efforts and look forward to working with the Parliamentarians to improve the human rights situation in Palestine and ensure that Israel is held accountable for its violations of Palestinian human rights.
