Al-Haq Attends 27th Session of the Human Rights Council
Ref.: 108/2014
22، Sept 2014

united-nations-bannerToday, 22 September, Al-Haq will present an oral statement to the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council for its 27th session. The statement will be delivered during the General Debate on "Item 7: Human rights situation in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories" and will focus on Israel's continuing violations of international human rights and humanitarian law since the cease-fire agreement of 26 August brought the most recent assault on Gaza to an end. The statement will urge Member States to address Israel's violations of international law under Item 7 and will request that Member States encourage the State of Palestine to join the International Criminal Court (ICC). Member States will also be urged to support the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry Investigating all Violations of International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights Law in the Occupied Palestinian Territory since 13 June 2014.

Al-Haq will also today participate in a side event organised by Badil Resource Center for Palestinian Residency and Refugee Rights on justice for Palestine at the ICC. The event will bring together panellists from Badil Resource Center for Palestinian Residency and Refugee Rights, Al-Haq, Emergency Water Sanitation and Hygiene (EWASH) and Action Contre La Faim (ACF International). In addition, Giles Divers, a lawyer who filed a complaint at the ICC on behalf of Palestine, will give a presentation at the event.
