Al-Haq Submits Urgent Appeal to UN on Planned Destruction of Khan Al-Ahmar
01، Jun 2018

On Monday, 28 May 2018, Al-Haq sent an urgent appeal to the United Nations special rapporteur on adequate housing as a component of the right to an adequate standard of living, and on the right to non-discrimination in this context, Ms. Leilani Farha, on the fate of Palestinians in Khan Al-Ahmar, the majority of whom are Palestinian refugees, and who are at imminent risk of secondary displacement, forced eviction, and forcible transfer.

In the letter, Al-Haq expressed its grave concern "that residents from the Khan al-Ahmar community are in immediate danger of being forcibly and illegally evicted from their homes. Israel continues to ignore its responsibilities under international humanitarian law through, inter alia, the construction of more illegal settlements in Occupied Palestinian Territory. The forcible transfer of civilians from occupied territory is a “grave breach of the Geneva Conventions.” Further, the destruction of the occupied population’s private property is a violation of Article 46 of the Hague Regulations. Both are imminent in the case of Khan al-Ahmar."
